In the Meantime…

So much has been going on but I haven’t had the motivation to post about it. I used to be so obsessed with blogging and now it has become a chore. Something I avoid with great care, like the growing pile of laundry in my room. Well, I hope to get back into it soon.… Continue reading »

Farewell 2012!

I can’t even begin to explain what this past year has been for me. I could try to convince you through pictures. Pictures of amazing sunsets, beaches, waterfalls, and mountains. Pictures of adorable kids making silly faces. Pictures of me, simply smiling. But even then it would not suffice. This past year has been incredible.… Continue reading »

One Year Thus Far…

Yesterday was my one year anniversary of when I first arrived in the Philippines. I can’t believe a year has gone by already! Life here as a volunteer is ambivalent and complex but it is also such an amazing journey as well.

A Subtle Change

I think I’ve reached an important mark in my service as a volunteer here.   The first few months in country were stressful, not only because of the rigorous training schedule but everything was new and overwhelming. New language, new food, new customs, new friends, new host family, new experiences. Then as I began to… Continue reading »

Oh 2011!

Oh 2011, what a year you have been!   I still remember two years back how much I felt the urge to travel abroad and serve others. It’s a strange feeling indeed when such an important holiday happens, and no one here knows about it,… Continue reading »

Coconuts and Farewells

As a little girl, my Dad told a variety of stories about his life growing up in the Philippines. The Coconut Story is by far the most remembered. Recorded on a black, old school cassette deck one cozy winter evening, it will forever be told and retold in my family…

Lost in My 20′s?

Part of me has always been guided by the fact that I was going to get married in my mid 20’s. Actually, my thought had always been to get married at 25. That way I could spend half my 20’s living single and carefree and spend the other half of my 20’s getting to know… Continue reading »

“…and the world spins madly on…”

“How you act is who you are. If the world is to change, you cannot leave it to somebody else. You simply cannot pray that things will get better. We cannot merely pray to God to end war, For God made us able to find the path to peace. We cannot merely pray to God… Continue reading »

The List

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what I’d like to do with my life.  I don’t have it all figured out but there’s always the little (sometimes silly) things I want to do. You know those stupid things you might never do but think it would be fun to imagine anyway…like opening up a cupcake shop… Continue reading »
