We held our second Youth Coffeehouse Performances this last weekend. This time we held three events, the first for the kids at my school, the second for high school and college student performances, and the third was an acoustic set by the band i-worship. It was a fundraiser for our music program as well as the school’s gardening project. It was a huge success and we were able to raise enough money to buy a new guitar, music equipment and supplies for the garden project. All the youth were so eager to perform and even now they keep asking me when the next Cambiare Cafe will be. These are some of my favorite pictures featuring the groups I work with the most. They are my pride and joy.
After the final performance event and my co-workers and I began the clean-up, my counterpart exclaims to me, “yay! We are finished!”
I replied with equal emthusiasm, “Yes! We did it!”
And I truly meant the “we” part. Sometimes with projects it’s hard to get the support of the community members you are working with. Although all my co-workers were very involved at our last Coffeehouse event, I could honestly say that this time, my site really took ownership of the event. It became theirs. That was when I finally saw a glimse of how my work here could have some sort of sustainability. This time I really felt that “we” did it.
